Amami Oshima: The Galapagos of Japan
Amami archipelago consists of eight islands in total of which Amami Oshima is the largest. Its name comes from the creator goddess Amamikiyo, believed to have descended on the shores of Kudaka-Jima, to build the seven sites sacred way.
Flora and fauna
Known by some as “The Galapagos Islands Japan, Amami Oshima has earned his nickname because of the incredible variety of flora and fauna that abounds in subtropical forests. Its clear waters and colorful coral reefs make it the ideal destination for diving.
