10 World Heritage Sites in Switzerland

Undoubtedly Switzerland is a wonderful country, highly regarded by the stunning beauty of its landscapes, but also by a wide cultural heritage. As such, over the years UNESCO declared World Heritage many of these places.

In 1983 Switzerland joined the UNESCO list of the top three Swiss cultural heritages, among which are: the old town of Bern, the Benedictine convent of San Juan in Müstair and District chapter of St. Gall with its architectural gem of the cathedral Gothic.

It took more than two decades for the country to Swiss resubmit new applications and got to be included in your list its wonderful natural assets. Today, Swiss Alps is credited ten commons and there are still two outstanding candidates.

* 2001 – Jungfrau Aletsch
* 2003 – Monte San Giorgio
* 2007 – Lavaux wine terraces of the Lake Leman
* 2008 – Rhaetian Railway in the region Albula / Bernina, Sardona tectonic area
* 2009 – Cityscape watch making industry, La Chaux de Fonds / Le Locle

Are pending approval by UNESCO of the following assets: the architectural and urban planning of Le Corbusier (with Argentina, Belgium, Germany, France and Japan). In preparation for submission to the body: the prehistoric stilt buildings in the Alpine foothills.

Finally it is worth noting that during 2010 in the Swiss region of Jungfrau-Aletsch will open the “World Conservation Laboratory.” This will be a center where they will discuss issues such as climate protection and nature, regional development and tourism are all issues that interest the general public.
