10 World Heritage Sites in Switzerland

Undoubtedly Switzerland is a wonderful country, highly regarded by the stunning beauty of its landscapes, but also by a wide cultural heritage. As such, over the years UNESCO declared World Heritage many of these places.

In 1983 Switzerland joined the UNESCO list of the top three Swiss cultural heritages, among which are: the old town of Bern, the Benedictine convent of San Juan in Müstair and District chapter of St. Gall with its architectural gem of the cathedral Gothic.

It took more than two decades for the country to Swiss resubmit new applications and got to be included in your list its wonderful natural assets. Today, Swiss Alps is credited ten commons and there are still two outstanding candidates.

Here are the other World Heritage Sites in Switzerland:

* 2001 – Jungfrau Aletsch
* 2003 – Monte San Giorgio
* 2007 – Lavaux wine terraces of the Lake Leman
* 2008 – Rhaetian Railway in the region Albula / Bernina, Sardona tectonic area
* 2009 – Cityscape watch making industry, La Chaux de Fonds / Le Locle

Are pending approval by UNESCO of the following assets: the architectural and urban planning of Le Corbusier (with Argentina, Belgium, Germany, France and Japan). In preparation for submission to the body: the prehistoric stilt buildings in the Alpine foothills.

Finally it is worth noting that during 2010 in the Swiss region of Jungfrau-Aletsch will open the “World Conservation Laboratory.” This will be a center where they will discuss issues such as climate protection and nature, regional development and tourism are all issues that interest the general public.

Volcano Museum in France

Throughout the history of our humanity, volcanoes has always been involved in events that have changed the lives of many. Such is the case in Pompeii, a faithful reflection of a volcanic disaster, which caused the destruction of two entire villages. Displaying the most recent cases, we can see examples of countries like Chile, Mexico and Ecuador suffered in recent times the regrets of their respective volcanoes.

Corsica, The Napoleon House

Corsica is an island belonging to France. The island is 170 km from France in the Mediterranean Sea. Corsica reaches more than 183 miles long and 83 kilometers wide. The island has to have their language, Corsican.

The island attracts tourists for its 200 beaches and its mountains. The highest mountain is Mount Cinto, over 2.706 meters high, and several mountain ranges that reach over 2,000 meters high.

The island also has many forests and several nature reserves. One of the most famous nature reserves in the interior of the island and is known as the Regional Natural Park of Corsica. Nino Lake is also among the nature of the island.

This island is the GR20, the Grand Tour 20, of 180 kilometers. This is one of the most popular trekking routes in Europe. The GR20 runs through the island, and is marked by signs and symbols red and white. Part of the route crosses the mountains, while the other hand guides the traveler to the small villages. The route passes through towns and cities like Calenzana, Carozzu, Castel de Vergio, Vizzavona, I Prati and Conca.

The plane gourmet island is a fusion of traditional cuisine of both France and Italy such as the pizzas, pastas, cured meats and cheeses from sheep.

The largest city of the island is Ajaccio. In the city stands the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1769. Several streets, monuments and sculptures remind one of its most famous. This city also houses the Cathedral of Ajaccio, a sixteenth-century cathedral where Napoleon was baptized. Other tourist attractions are the Genoese towers, as Torra di Capu of UNEF, the Pirate Tower, dating from the XVI century, and Torra di Castelluchju. It is worth visiting the archipelago of Iles Sanguine, decorated with a lighthouse in 1870. The islands are located in the Gulf of Ajaccio.

Lille, the City’s Citadel, the Fine Arts and Boutiques

Lille is a city in northern France. The city is considered a good destination for shoppers tired of big cities, and is the ideal destination to relax in a typically French and enjoy the many boutiques.

Lille stands out as a city dedicated to science, culture and art. In this city was born the famous scientist Louis Pasteur, who invented the pasteurization process and was one of the pioneers of the vaccines. In Lille is the scientific research institute that bears his name, the Institut Pasteur. In this scientific institute found the first vaccine against tuberculosis, known as the Bacille Calmette et Guérin.

The city is full of interesting cultural buildings. Some of the many Citadelle, or citadels, were designed by Vauban dating from the seventeenth century. La Citadelle de Lille, is a citadel that is shaped like a pentagon. The citadel dates back to 1668 and is known as the queen of citadels. The Opéra de Lille was built in 1923. Many buildings have curious architectural style flamenco; including residential buildings are closer to the architecture of the Netherlands to the French architecture.

Other places of interest are highlighted in this city the palace of General Charles de Gaulle, also known as the Grand Place. The building is known for its impressive facade, and its proximity to the Vieille Bourse. Column of the Goddess, also known as The Memorial to the Siege of Lille, is a column that is in the center of the city. The statue was built in 1842 to commemorate the resistance during the French Revolution and the siege of Lille. The column is located near the Grand Place and since 1990 a fountain decorates the base of the spine.

With the opening of Eurostar and the extension of the TGV, the city became the heart of the triangle that connects three of the major cities of Europe, Paris, London and Brussels. The city center has become a much visited because of its geographical and economic situation. There are Notable buildings and Tower Euratechnologies Lille Europe. The Port of Lille is also an important center in the city.

One of the most important monuments of the city is the Cathedral of Lille, known as the Basilique-cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-la-Treille de Lille. This cathedral is one of the largest in the country, which was begun in the nineteenth century and takes its name from a statue of the Virgin Mary XII century. Also, here is the Bishop of Lille.

The city is noted for his love of nature, as it has several botanical gardens, such as El Jardin Botanique of the Faculté de Pharmacie part of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Lille 2 Universided. This botanical garden has many trees and plants that come from all over the world. There are thousands of species of plants, and the territory of the garden there is also a tropical greenhouse. This garden dates from the 1970s.

According to historical records, the city had botanical gardens since 1596. The Jardin des Plantes de Lille, 11 acres, and the Jardin Botanique Nicolas Boulay, are two extremely important botanical gardens. The Jardin des Plantes de Lille is a park full of different plants, many of them coming from the Mediterranean.

The Palais des Beaux Arts de Lille, the Palacio de Bellas Artes de Lille is without doubt one of the most important museums throughout France and one of the jewels of the city and built according to the current architecture of the Belle Époque. The palace began to be built under Napoleon I in the early nineteenth century. During that time, thousands of works of art were confiscated from the churches and some territories occupied by French troops. All these works ended up in major museums in the country and confiscated works continue to attract thousands to the palace devoted to art.
