Paris Plage: Summer in Paris

Since 2002, every summer in Paris has exploded like never before, transforming it into a completely different city. Parisian summer is that we live in the “Paris Plage” event covering of sand along the river Seine and offers from July 19 to Aug. 19 Paris walk among palm trees, beach chairs, swimming pools and sun umbrellas. Stop by one of the hottest events of the city of lights.

For the fifth consecutive year in Paris is transformed into a tropical capital, even for a few days. While palm trees are in transportable containers and giant pool assembly and disassembly in a short time, all Paris is preparing to enjoy their own and extravagant beach on the shores of the river Seine.

When the sun hits the French capital, Parisians can take a break and enjoy the artificial beaches and a gigantic pool that the city government makes available to everyone.

From seven o’clock you’ll see thousands of people walking to Paris Plage, in search of a comfortable space to enjoy the warmth and cultural and sporting activities of the artificial beach four miles, which overwhelmingly amended the heart of Paris during the hottest time of year.

Thus, while touring the city you see women in bikinis running time to reach some of the hundreds of chairs that are available during the days-long event. The same show of any tropical beach is transported to the streets, even with children and shovels, ready to build sand castles in the middle of town.

Between Marie and Sully bridges you can also find one of the major attractions: a pool of over 200 square feet to cool off and have fun. Two thousand tons of sand, more than fifty palm trees, outdoor showers, hundreds of sun beds and parasols, ice cream vendors and lifeguards help this holiday event, complete the landscape in the midst of the great city of light.

That is to say that all cultural activities are free and transport developed specifically for this event provides access to those who live far from the center of Paris.

The main idea why this event takes place is to provide a relief for the Parisians who can not go on holiday and that they can relax and cool off in the same city. Admission is also free for passengers. This will organize play areas, with beach-volley tennis and beach soccer. For the little kids find special recreation areas with industry to build sand castles and games with the guidance of a specially trained staff.

As the pool fills up very early, in some sections of the beach you will find walkways with a water spray and several portable showers that allow for continuous cool. Once you’re on the beach you will see lots of people sunbathing, reading or playing in the sand. There are also a few who dare to paddle through the waters of the Seine. Many are tempted to take a dip, but the river is contaminated and any attempt only sees the water.

Activities
The beach stretches to the foot of the City of Paris, so you’ll see many people in suits watching the volleyball and soccer games are organized in the sand. Other favorite activities are the bike riding and jogging. In several parts of the beach there are shops where you can rent equipment for these activities.

If you love the sport not much you can take a dance class like salsa. One of the main attractions is the spontaneous concerts that brighten the afternoon between tropical rhythms. Nor need someone offers you a rich and refreshing fruit juice that you can take in one of the tables and chairs ready for relaxation.

And if yours is reading, you can rent hammocks stretched between the trees especially. As a plus there is a loan service of books, because not for nothing Paris is considered the capital of culture.

In the evening concerts are programmed lighting effects and music during the night. Fun is guaranteed throughout the day.

On the Road to the Ruins in Turkey

Turkey is one of those destinations that have been chosen for a short vacation, a destination is usually quite affordable at the same time unknown, and provides for much more than a short vacation.

We can find many ruins of ancient temples, castles and fortresses of ancient settlements and remains of the walls of such cities or amphitheaters in the west of Turkey. Those who like archeology found here with the story at his feet. The area is very hot and dry, but once, in time of the Greeks was ancient port, now all dry.

We can travel from city to city with buses arriving and finding a place to sleep is not complicated, so that we can go a little adventure and explore the region without ties or problems.

One of the places to visit is the site of ancient Troy, which is only part of the wall, and you need an expert to distinguish the different layers of debris.

The Acropolis and strength in Bergamo (Pergamon), pyrene, Didymea, Ephesus … the list of places to visit is extensive, many of them only a pile of rocks and difficult to distinguish from other archaeological sites have fared better and are preserved and restored, but it is not usual. What we find in this part of Turkey is a journey through Greek and Roman culture.

In some places the sensation is of having made a journey through time as you can be in the same theater that did the Romans or walk down the same roads on which they went.

Sometime during the trip, we had to take a bus to take us to some secluded place, only bad thing about transportation here is that maybe we left somewhere for an afternoon while visiting the ruins we only was an hour and a half as much, which we had to wait long until the next bus to pass. Sometimes when this happened close to where we could find a service area or a cafe where old men played cards and drank tea … an opportunity to observe the locals. It is also common to find in stores these sites handmade carpets, in which we can pass the time.

Many times during these visits, we have found to be the only tourists in the place, and go on a bus full of locals we stopped anywhere, but the landscapes were great and you could see things like that here, the farmers still on mules and horses to their workplace.

In recent years Turkey has been sold as a popular tourist site and exotic, it is … but its charm can be found in other less crowded places and we will remember forever. It is a good opportunity if you enjoy visiting historical sites, you just have to prepare a little trip to organize and know the places to go, and otherwise find accommodation here without prior reservation is not usually a problem.

Germany is a Great place to visit

To start I would like to say that most people are right, Germany is a GREAT place to visit. I heard on the radio the other day that over 4 million Americans visited Germany in 2005 and to be honest it did not surprise me at all. With so many beautiful things to see and experience who wouldn’t be interested?

Lets start off with the obvious attractions:

Castles: Arguably the number one attraction of Germany. Castles are one of Germanys most historic prized possessions. With at least one Castle in every single decent sized town in Germany, you will always have a place to visit no matter where your travels in Germany take you. Most of these Castles have nice restaurants inside where you are given information on the historic value of the establishment, not to mention great food in my experience.

German Beer: Many say that German beer is the best in the world, because of this many German breweries are hesitant to give up their ‘tricks of the trade’ many saying ‘its in the water’. Whether this is true or not Germany definitely has a reputation for providing delicious preservative free beer. The German government actually mandates that only a few main ingredients are to be added to the beer and no preservatives can be added, BY LAW.

German Food: I am sure that you all have either heard about or tried some of the typical German dishes, i.e. Schnitzel, Wursts (German sausage) and Spatzle, but what you may not have tried are some of the ‘not so traditional’ but common dishes in Germany. If you are planning a trip to Germany I recommend going to any German restaurant and ordering the house special. Most restaurants, just like in the U.S., have a house special that is different from restaurant to restaurant and will usually be very delicious.
